Pilot Project for the Safe Introduction of Low-Speed Vehicles into Urban Areas

This project will define and assess the appropriate urban context and other necessary conditions for the safe use of low-speed vehicles (LSVs) in urban areas through a pilot experiment using an LSV fleet. Project activities include organizing the purchase, commissioning, and use of a fleet of at least 15 LSVs and selecting and installing urban infrastructure (road signs, speed bumps, etc.) to allow for the safe use of LSVs in the city of St. Jérôme. A survey of traffic managers, police officers, vehicle users, pedestrians and other road users will be carried out to assess the measures implemented and the usefulness of LSVs on public thoroughfares. A guide will be prepared for municipalities in order to promote the safe introduction of these vehicles into Canada's urban areas.
