Strong Motion Instrumentation Plan for UDOT Bridges: Array Design, Typical Details and Specifications

This project will develop a standard set of drawings and specifications for strong motion instrumentation; select and instrument representative Utah bridges; model the structure and subsurface to optimize placement of instruments; make a priori predictions of earthquake response; develop a plan for instrumentation of future highway bridges; and, develop a memorandum of understanding between the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS). Utah currently has a network of strong motion instruments that have been deployed by the University of Utah Seismograph Station as part of the Advanced National Seismic System, the instrumentation plan for this research should become part of this network, pending coordination with ANSS.
