Evaluation of the 24th Street Bridge, Interstate 80/29, Council Bluffs, Iowa
In late 2007, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will construct a bridge carrying 24th Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa, over Interstate 80/29. Although the design is not complete, the concept will include prestressed, precast deck panels that are longitudinally post-tensioned. This application of precast deck panels represents a step forward from previous applications of such a system in Iowa and strives to further improve the design concept. The evaluation will include a laboratory component and a field component. The lab program is intended to help answer specific design and construction questions so they can be included in the final design. Details of the field testing will be finalized after the final design is completed.
