Improving Safety for Slow Moving Vehicles on Iowa's High Speed Rural Roadways
State and local agencies must plan, design, and maintain roadways that serve a wide variety of users. Within Iowa, this means providing roadways that accommodate slow moving vehicles such as horse drawn carriages, large combines and planters, and a variety of other agricultural related implements. This study is focused on improving transportation safety for these special "slow moving" users of the public roadway system and improving operations for other roadway users who interact with slow moving vehicles. Identifying and addressing the needs of these groups along with developing safety strategies and guidelines will enhance both the safety and effectiveness of the public roadway system for all users.
