Warm Mix Asphalt Field Study
The Alabama Department of Transportation has planned the construction of a warm mix asphalt (WMA) test section near Birmingham, Alabama. Dunn Construction is the contractor for the project. The warm mix technology to be used is MeadWestvaco's Evotherm which is a WMA technology in the form of an asphalt emulsion containing a patented chemical formulation which enhances mix workability. MeadWestvaco and National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) will review the mix design developed by Dunn Construction and make revisions as necessary for the WMA section. NCAT and its subcontractor will be present during the construction of the warm mix section and the control section to document the project, aid in problem solving, and conduct sampling and testing of the mixture.
