Vegetation Management for Alabama's Highway Rights of Way
The objectives for this project are: 1) To Develop and evaluate programs for improving management of vegetation on highway rights-of-way and assist in demonstration trials relating to the influence of native plants and wildflowers on vegetation management programs. 2) To evaluate and demonstrate new vegetation management equipment, chemicals, and techniques for utility and potential inclusion in the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) programs. 3) To provide factual information and assistance to ALDOT in dealing with groups and individuals concerning the safety and desirability of vegetation management practices. 4) Assist with the statewide education and training of maintenance personnel for the safe and effective use of herbicides and other chemicals. The educational programs will consist of lectures and printed materials and will be conducted at locations identified by the Maintenance Engineer. 5) Provide or procure professional expertise in agronomic, horticultural, and pest management disciplines as needed to assist ALDOT in conducting the vegetation management program.
