Factors that Contribute to Asphalt Absorption: Aggregates
The objective of this project is to establish a test procedure for determining aggregate porosity and to quantify effects of aggregate porosity on asphalt absorption. Absorption is becoming an issue in determining asphalt cement (A.C.) content in asphalt mixes, especially in End Product Specification (EPS) contracts where the department determines the A.C. content of mixes and payment to contractors is based on these test results. The central lab has previously researched asphalt absorption and established that absorption is reality. To overcome conflict and for better understanding, further research is required into factors that affect absorption.
