Strategic Highway Research Program - SuperPave
The Department has implemented the Superpave technology developed by SHRP for the asphalt paving progam in the state. Since initial pilot projects, specifications have evolved several times to the current specifications. The objectives of this project are to monitor the performance of initial Superpave sites and to provide feedback on their performance to the Materials Bureau. Future performance monitoring, if needed, will be initiated. This entails conducting annual condition surveys to monitor pavement performance and measuring deflection with a Falling Weight Deflectometer to determine asphalt and subgrade resilient modulus. This will provide for long-term performance data for evaluation and refinement of SuperPave specifications, design procedures, and performance comparisons against other mixes.
