Safety & Security Technical Support
: The Safety & Security Technology Program places special emphasis on the evaluation and deployment of state-of the-art technologies and other innovative enhancements that promote public health and transit safety. This technical assistance effort will provide the resources necessary to encourage transit professionals in developing an awareness and culture of technology transfer activities and actively foster and disseminate research results and best practices associated with proven safety and security technologies. Promotional materials is intended to energize the industry in the deployment of proven safety and security technologies, such as the application of four quadrant highway-rail grade crossing gates integrated into a vehicle detection system. This grade crossing technology has been successfully demonstrated to enhance safety at light rail grade crossings. By actively fostering and mainstreaming the gated technology to transit agencies will enhance the safe operation of light rail transit nationwide.
