Work Zone Traffic Management on Streets and Highways

The objective of this project is to develop an integrated, real-time temporary zone traffic management system to improve safety in highway construction or work zones. The project will: develop functional and system requirements for real-time advanced warning and traffic control systems; identify and integrate off-the-shelf technology with state-of-the art control logic to create a working prototype; conduct proof-of-concept trials under real-use conditions; evaluate the likely cost/benefits of implementing such systems; and make recommendations for future research and development.
