Integrating Travel Services - The Ride Points System
The objective of this project is to explore whether reward points systems can be used as a means to incite drivers to use ride matching to reduce the overall numbers of cars on the road. The project will develop an efficient ride-matching system that relies on cellular telephone technology to link drivers and passengers, and a reward points system to encourage its use. It involves several components: studying why previous carpooling systems have failed; studying the effectiveness of rewards points systems and examining how they may be applied to promoting environmentally friendly transportation; developing a business model, including identifying potential users as well as partners; and identifying necessary technologies.
