511 Readiness in Canada
The objective of this project is to prepare a development plan and deployment standards and guidelines for a national 511-based traveler and weather information system. Access to timely and accurate travel information can help travelers avoid problems such as congestion and accidents and help them choose travel modes appropriate to actual conditions. This in turn promises to increase the overall safety and efficiency of the system and reduce the cost and frustration associated with delays. While a variety of sources of information such as weather and road conditions is already available, no work is being done to coordinate the delivery, content, quality and style of this information and to make sure that the systems can share their data.
