Reducing the Crash Risk for Young Drivers

Despite the well-documented success of graduated licensing programs, thousands of young drivers who are protected by the program still crash. This project will provide new data to fine tune GDL by identifying components that work best and it will provide information geared toward improving driver education and enhancing parental involvement. This research involves in-depth investigations of crash records in Ontario and Oregon, jurisdictions with different GDL systems. The study also includes thousands of surveys of teens and parents in British Columbia and Oregon comparing crash-free and crash-involved teen drivers within the different GDL systems.
