Evaluate ShapeAccelArray (SAA) Real-Time Monitoring Device

This project will purchase, install, and field evaluate two ShapeAccelArray (SAA) real-time monitoring devices. The SAA is a new geotechnical instrumentation device developed by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Measurand Inc. The SSA is essentially a long flexible tube containing arrays of MicroElectroMechanical (MEMS) -based sensors spaced one foot apart which are able to collect continuous three-dimensional displacement and acceleration data. When installed in the ground and connected to an uplink device, soil deformations and vibrations can be monitored in real-time and uploaded wirelessly to the internet and the interface can also be set to send a warning to an engineer via cell phone if a certain threshold movement is exceeded. After the initial evaluation, the devices will be reused as needed on other projects.
