Effects of Sand Equivalent and Fractured Face Percentage on Concrete Strength

This project will evaluate the effects of sand equivalent values and fractured face percentages on the performance of concrete used in transportation infrastructure. The study will use laboratory testing to examine how aggregate quality affects concrete strength and overall performance. The project will also compare sand equivalent and methylene blue testing methods and assess whether current aggregate specifications could be modified to reduce costs while maintaining concrete quality. The results will be used to develop recommendations for potential updates to the Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD's) aggregate material specifications.
