Seismic Avalanche Detection and Characterization
This project will evaluate the use of passive seismic monitoring to improve avalanche detection, characterization, and forecasting along the Highway 21 corridor. The study will use seismic monitoring, weather data, field observations, and snowpack measurements to better understand changes in snow conditions and identify indicators of avalanche activity. The results will be used to evaluate the potential of passive seismic monitoring to improve avalanche forecasting and provide more continuous information to support operational decisions and roadway safety.
