Artificial Intelligence Policies at State Departments of Transportation: The State of the Practice
To support the Arizona Department of Transportation’s (ADOT) development of an agency-wide Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, this project will document the state of the practice across U.S. DOTs, highlighting both adopted policy frameworks and implementation experiences. The effort is especially timely given Arizona’s P2000 Generative AI Policy, which requires agencies to define acceptable AI uses and ensure proper governance. The study will provide ADOT with actionable recommendations for policy design and implementation that both align with P2000 requirements and reflect the unique mission of a transportation agency.
