Estimating Long-Distance Travel Patterns Using Data Fusion Methods
The purpose of this research is to generate a robust and detailed statewide origin-destination (OD) flow matrix for long-distance travel, for personal and truck usage, in Arizona while minimizing the costs and logistical barriers associated with traditional large-scale surveys. The proposed approach involves conducting a small-scale long-distance travel survey to collect essential data on travel patterns. To overcome the limitations of a smaller sample size, the survey data should be integrated with Connected Vehicle Data (CVD) for real-time data, location-based services (LBS) data using data fusion (i.e., the process of integrating multiple data sources to produce more accurate, consistent, and useful information than what could be provided by any single data source) techniques.
