Methods to Revitalize and Improve Rest Area Infrastructure
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) spends considerable time, effort, and funding to operate, maintain, and make improvements to rest areas. Most of Kentucky’s rest areas were built many years ago and may lack the capacity to handle current and future demands. Because funding is limited, the Cabinet has to balance the needs of rest areas against other highway projects. To identify economical strategies for improving rest area infrastructure, KYTC wants to investigate how other states fund the operation, maintenance, and improvements of their rest areas. Additionally, the Cabinet would like insights into types of improvements being made by other states.
