Advancing Microtransit Efficiency: A Comprehensive Evaluation and Optimization Tool for Connecticut Microtransit System
This proposed project will focus on developing a novel tool for performance monitoring and management of public transportation systems with microtransit connections. This tool will incorporate a strategic approach to identify gaps in the microtransit system and provide recommendations to ensure the successful implementation of such services across the state. The following are the key objectives. 1) Development of a tool to evaluate the current performance of microtransit system using the collected data by transit districts and municipalities. This tool will also project the performance metrics under future scenarios, enabling the identification of an optimized strategy to achieve expected outcomes. 2) Assess users’ satisfaction with the microtransit program through a survey and include their recommendations for the improvement of the program. 3) Provide a methodological alternative to analyze microtransit data and update performance metrics and indices for effective quantitative and qualitative evaluations of microtransit systems. 4) Perform an analysis of Connecticut microtransit data using the new tool, identifying the areas with suboptimal performance, and exploring the underlying factors to improve microtransit system. 5) Identify and develop strategies to improve microtransit performance of the areas with suboptimal performance, such as district-specific customer incentives to use microtransit services and sharing the recommendations with transit providers, municipalities, and other relevant agencies.
