Evaluation of Cement Treated Aggregate (CTA) and Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) In-Service Performance and Pavement Design Inputs

The purpose of this research is to compare document the typical in-service performance of asphalt pavements constructed using Cement Treated Aggregate (CTA) and Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) to develop Pavement-ME design inputs and compare the predicted and actual performance to understand if there is a performance difference between the two materials. This will be accomplished by examining distresses, structural response, and service life through a combination of field investigation and a review of Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT's) pavement management system (PMS) data. In addition, the mechanical properties of CTA and FDR materials will be measured from deflection testing and cores obtained from projects completed within Virginia. These results, along with results from a literature review, will be used to recommend separate design inputs for CTA and FDR materials to be used by VDOT within Pavement-ME Design (Version 3).
