Mobility and Safety Needs Assessment. A Case Study of Northfield, VT

This project examines mobility and traffic safety issues in Northfield, Vermont, with a particular emphasis on underserved pedestrians and bicyclists. Through focus groups, surveys, and interviews with local residents and stakeholders, the study identifies key challenges and proposes short-term solutions, while also developing a long-term framework for integrating autonomous vehicles (AVs) to enhance transportation accessibility and safety. By aligning with US DOT priorities on equitable mobility and safety, the research aims to inform context-sensitive strategies and foster innovative transportation solutions tailored to rural communities. Data collected will support actionable recommendations and contribute to the body of knowledge on rural transportation systems.
