Development of Field Water/Cement Ratio Test using Time Domain Reflectometry
As concrete mix designs have become more complex over the last 20+ years with the advent of various types, brands, and combinations of water reducers and plasticizers being used to gain slump without loss in strength, measuring the field water/cement ratio via the slump cone no longer significantly predicts in all cases where non-conforming job water has been added to a mix. This study aims to develop a test method and procedure for measuring the real-time water/concrete ratio on freshly sampled concrete using time-domain reflectometry technology.
