"Prioritizing Active Transportation Facilities That Would Benefit from Retrofits” and “Evaluation of Separated Bike Lane Vertical Elements."
This research will provide a guide to implementation of vertical elements for separated bike lanes (e.g., flex posts, curbs, and planters) in terms of design, safety outcomes, and maintenance of implemented safety measures. Reflectivity and color design issues may also be considered. This research effort should reference and build on the following resources: (1) FHWA Bikeway Selection Guide https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/ped_bike/tools_solve/docs/fhwasa18077.pdf (2) FHWA Guidebook for Measuring Multimodal Network Connectivity https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/bicycle_pedestrian/publications/multimodal_connectivity/ and (3) FHWA Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide.
