California 2024 Sustainable Freight Academy

The Caltrans Sustainable Freight Academy is a four-day in-person training for professional development for Caltrans staff to be held in the fall of 2024 in California’s Central Valley. It is designed to build capacity within department staff, allowing them to gain knowledge of current trends and issues affecting the movement of freight throughout the state. This knowledge is then used in the development of Caltrans-sponsored plans and programs, and in coordination with external partners such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Energy Commission (CEC). The objective of the 2024 Academy is improving employee knowledge and skills surrounding the transformation of California’s freight system based upon goals of sustainability and decarbonization. Training Academy delivery includes implementation for approximately 50 participants. The seminars include a combination of instruction by staff from the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT) and affiliated instructors; expert guest speakers; site visits; and individual and applied exercises to reinforce knowledge acquisitions. Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the CITT College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) at CSULB.
