Benefit-Cost Analysis to Use Big Data via Data Service - A Focused Study Using Aerial Imagery Data to Improve Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety

The research will investigate the utilization of available big data to enhance safety and efficiency for transportation agencies. This will be achieved by conducting a thorough benefit-cost analysis using a specific instance of big data as an example. Researchers will compare this innovative approach with traditional methods, and evaluate the ability, availability, and affordability of big data via a focused study using high-resolution imagery data and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to identify locations that need countermeasure implementation or infrastructure improvements to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.
