Qualitative Relationship Between Increased Legal Loads and Reduced Bridge Service Life
The current legislative and legal environment is trending towards increasing the legal loads that cross Iowa bridges. it is commonly believed that increasing legal loads will negatively impact (i.e., reduce) bridge service life. However, there is no documented procedure to determine the exact relationship between an increase in load and a reduction in life. This project will develop a methodology for determining general and site-specific impact of increasing legal loads on bridge service life.
