Pilot Implementation of Surface Aggregate Classification of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement
The research team will assist Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with implementing the surface aggregate classification (SAC) for reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) developed in research project 0-7025, Develop Surface Aggregate Classification of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement. The researchers will implement and verify the methodology of SAC-A RAP classification in a minimum of four (4) TxDOT Districts. In each selected TxDOT District, the researchers will work with lab and pavement engineers and their staff to characterize the RAP in terms of SAC, design surface mixtures with the RAP, evaluate the friction and skid resistance of mixtures, and construct and monitor the selected test sections in each TxDOT District. The researchers will then use the data generated in these test sections to develop and teach implementation workshops for TxDOT Districts.
