Innovative Soil Improvement Through Bio-Cementitious Materials to Mitigate Bridge Scour
The project will investigate the use of biopolymers – polymers produced by living organisms – as a soil stabilizer to mitigate bridge scour. The main objectives of this project include: (1) to investigate the mechanical behaviors of biopolymer treated soil (gravel, sand, and silt); (2) to implement the solidification of cohensionless soil through biopolymers in water-rich environments; (3) to simulate contraction scour situation to verify whether biopolymer can improve the existing bridge scour caused by flowing water.
