Use of Electronic Health Records to Support Pilot Aeromedical Certification

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate the technical feasibility of using Electronic Health Records (EHRs) operated in healthcare systems to assist in the completion or validation of FAA Form 8500-8 (Application for Airman Medical Certification) data elements via commercial healthcare data exchanges. This project will also explore opportunities to use EHR derived data to assist in safety assurance, special issuances, and medical recertification. This project will establish criteria for assessing technical feasibility and demonstrate an operational prototype application assisting with the completion of FAA Form 8500-8 using a sample of representative EHR data. The results of the prototyping will inform Office of Aerospace Medicine information technology business models used to support medical certification modernization planning and requirements.
