Pavement Design: Performance of Base versus Subbase
This work will consider material availability, load characteristics and quality indicators for performance of base and subbase materials. This project will provide guidance both to designers/practitioners to use key aggregate resources and to local agencies for evaluating locally available materials for designing cost-effective flexible and rigid pavements. The project will explore aggregate/pavement layer characteristics that should be evaluated, and determine when/how a thicker subbase and a thinner base is constructed.
