Broaden the Integration of Safety Data and Analysis into All Processes
This study will do the following: (1) Maintain and operate the Highway Safety Information System VI for roadway safety analysis; (2) Define concepts for Highway Safety Information System VII applying new big data analytics; (3) Explore use of disparate data in safety analyses to gain broader perspective and more complete picture of highway crashes and safety; (4) Explore the potential open source data management tools that can enable novel data conflations and lead to analyses that consider various infrastructure and operations data in safety analysis; (5) Complete Pilot of In-Service Performance Evaluation, providing lessons learned for State DOTs regarding how to collect data to conduct an in-service performance evaluation; and (6) Support the Advanced Enterprise GIS for Transportation Systems AEGIST to through the development and validation of uniform data collection procedures and reporting.
