Investigate Key AV Human Factors Safety Issues related to Infrastructure
This project gathered input on research topics related to the safe operation of automated vehicles as a function of roadway infrastructure through a stakeholder workshop that resulted in a prioritized list of topics. Some topics on the list include mixed fleet acceptance and traffic behavior, pedestrian/bike interaction with AV, and AV understanding of specific infrastructure. The prioritized list will guide the design of two driving simulator and two test track or on road experiments that explore driver safety as a function of AVs and infrastructure. The first driving simulator study will inform roadway designs through the identification of human factors issues related to interactions between vehicles with driving automation technology and vulnerable road users on shared use roadways.
