SPR-2324: CTfastrak Automated Bus Survey

The goal of this study is to improve the understanding of the public willingness and their perception of deploying connected and automated (CAV) buses. To achieve this goal, this project will attempt to provide the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), and the rest of the country, with an unbiased look at the impacts, challenges, and potential of CAV bus technologies. Therefore, a transit vehicle operator and transit vehicle rider survey will be conducted, regarding the deployment and impacts of these vehicles, which follows two main goals: (1) To document the change in transit rider perception, potential adoption, and related challenges CAV technologies may face as public transit riders begin to have regular interactions with the technology in the real world. (2) To document the change in driver/operator perception, potential adoption, and related challenges with respect to CAV technologies as they use the technology in the real world. Feedback will be provided to the CTDOT, and CT Transit operators based on rider and operator surveys, about their willingness or fears when it comes to CAV technologies. This feedback can be critical to stakeholders as they look to enhance, expand, and validate the continued use of this type of service and technology for public transit in Connecticut in the future.
