Impacts of COVID Restrictions on Freight Transportation in Coastal and Intermodal Port Regions
The global COVID pandemic of 2020, effected travel patterns across the world. The level of impact was influenced not only by the virus itself, but more so by the nature, extent, and duration of governmental restriction on commerce and personal activity to limit its spread. Interestingly economic impacts during government mandated lockdown periods, particularly as demonstrated by the volume of freight vehicles, differed significantly that personal travel, as demonstrated by automobile volume varied. These variations were evident in several ways, including across locations, vehicle types, and in relation to the time that governmental restrictions were implemented and rescinded.
