OPTIMIZING TRAFFIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT DEPLOYMENT IN UTAH

The objective of this research is to identify locations in Utah where UDOT traffic incident management team (IMT) personnel and equipment will be most effectively located. This research will be based on about-to-be completed research identifying critical highway facilities throughout Utah. In the Wasatch Front region, this research will be enhanced with a regional microsimulation model. This microsimulation will model traffic operations during a road closure and after an IMT assists in restoring operations on the road. An optimization algorithm will determine the best siting locations during AM and PM peak periods for a variety of IMT fleet size options.
