Develop Transition for MASH Test Level 4 (TL-4) Compliant Guardrail System
The Performing Agency shall develop and test guardrail end-transition for the metal guardrail developed under the recently completed Receiving Agency’s project. The guardrail design that was developed and crash tested under a past project had incorporated an end-transition design that transitioned to the standard Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) Test Level 3 (TL-3) W-beam guardrail and standard guardrail end-terminals. However, this transition design was not evaluated through impact simulations or full-scale crash testing. The Performing Agency shall evaluate the previously developed end-transition design through simulation and full-scale crash testing. If the transition design of the existing project is determined to be inadequate after the simulation analyses, the Performing Agency shall recommend changes to the end-transition design and evaluate the modified design through further impact simulation analysis. Once the transition design has been developed, the Performing Agency shall perform full-scale crash testing to evaluate the transition design in accordance with MASH TL-3 evaluation criteria for guardrail transitions. The Performing Agency shall provide a transition design that allows full implementation of the TL-4 guardrail previously developed under the existing project..
