Steel Bridge Coating Inventory 2021
Kentucky maintains 1,100+ steel bridges. Based on expected coating service lives, maintaining protective coatings on these bridges will require painting at least 50 bridges per year. If bridge maintenance staff are to develop a plan for maintaining bridge protective coatings, KYTC needs an up-to-date inventory of steel bridges which includes coating condition assessments. With the input of district bridge engineers, this project will develop a prioritized inventory of steel bridges. The final list will be submitted for future field assessment. Based on these assessments, maintenance coating schedules and economical bridge coating strategies (e.g., spot/zone painting, overcoating) will be developed. A coatings maintenance plan will include a projected budget which will support requests for bridge maintenance funding.
