Online Instructional Tools for Motor Carriers
Kentucky's Department of Vehicle Regulations increasingly offers customer support capabilities through online services, most notably its Motor Carrier Portal. Motor carriers may use the portal to register and pay taxes for their IFTA, KIT, and KYU requirements; obtain temporary permits; and check available truck parking. Online services give motor carrier operators an efficient method to meet regulatory obligations and free up KYTC resources by reducing staff demands associated with onsite and call center customer support. Unfortunately, large segments of the motor carrier community encounter difficulties navigating online services and default to resource-intensive onsite and call center support. Additional self-service online videos and instructional services will help customers better understand and navigate online services. Kentucky can incentivize the use of online services by making platforms as easy possible to navigate.
