Graduated Driver Licensing Program

Kentucky has one of the highest teenage crash rates in the nation. Statewide, teenage drivers account for 6 percent of the driving population, yet they are involved in about 18 percent of all fatal crashes and over 20 percent of all highway crashes. Kentucky instituted the Graduated Driver Licensing program to reduce the number of crashes involving teenage drivers, especially fatal and severe injury crashes. This research study will evaluate safety outcomes associated with Kentucky’s Graduated Driver Licensing Program.
