Strategically Placing Traffic Sensors on Traffic Networks by Incorporating Traffic Dynamics
Traffic sensors are essential for traffic state estimation and management. How to strategically locate traffic sensors on a traffic network has been a hot research topic for decades. The majority of the previous research merely focuses on static traffic network relationships. This research incorporates the traffic dynamics when considering the sensor location problem, which makes use of the valuable flow-time relation. The traffic network is modeled as a piecewise linear dynamical system and mathematical programming is used to optimize the sensor location.
