Develop Refined Design Methods for Lean-On Bracing

Lean-on bracing applications are increasing in application in steel bridge systems. A recent Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) application of lean-on bracing demonstrated that improvements in the existing design expressions were warranted, as well as establishing rules for the configuration of braces. In this project, researchers will conduct parametric finite element analysis and field monitoring of a bridge with lean-on bracing that has been recently designed. The purpose of the project will be to produce a research report that documents the research findings and includes guidelines on bracing design and configuration with improved accuracy in the stiffness and strength components for the braces.
