Electric Vehicle Simulations Based on Kansas-Centric Conditions
One of the largest barriers to Electric Vehicle (EV) acceptance is range anxiety. To mitigate this issue, states must be strategic in developing an effective EV charging infrastructure that can reach a majority of the public. Instead of relying on manufacturer data regarding commercial EV range for determination of this infrastructure, simulations based on Kansas atmospheric conditions (e.g., ambient temperature and wind speed) and road grade will provide an accurate representation of EV travel distance. This effort will develop models for the 10 best-selling EVs for the express purpose of helping department of transportation (DOT) planning personnel determine electric charging infrastructure locations throughout the state of Kansas.
