Analysis and Modernization of Bridge Construction Cost Database

Historically, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has tracked bridge construction and rehabilitation costs by reviewing construction letting results. Yet formal tracking is not robust and a more substantial database is needed. This project will strengthen the Cabinet’s ability to monitor bridge construction and rehabilitation costs by: (1) updating cost data, (2) modernizing database entry and data mining tools, (3) identifying outlier costs and where spikes in pricing have occurred, and (4) investigating what factors and relationships influence price fluctuations. Ultimately, the products generated through this research will equip KYTC staff with the tools they need to improve bridge construction estimates and identify future savings.
