Recommendations for Future Specifications to Ensure Durable Next Generation Concrete
The objectives of this research effort include: (1) to provide a review of current “best practices” for the development and implementation of performance-based specifications (PBS) for concrete for transportation projects, (2) to review available performance test methods and criteria for performance, relevant to environmental conditions and traffic patterns in the state, (3) to quantify savings to the state comparing prescriptive and performance specification and (4) to generate guidelines for incorporating PBS as an option in Sections 430, 439, and 500.
