Work Plan for the Bridge Center and Bridge Engineer Program FY2020

This work plan will cover those tasks to be conducted by the BE, Brent Phares, as part of his appointment with the Institute for Transportation (InTrans). It will include tasks that support the Iowa DOT in the development and conduct of research. These tasks reflect requests and input from Iowa DOT personnel knowledgeable about Iowa DOT’s needs in this area. The plan can again be modified throughout the year by mutual agreement between ISU and the Iowa DOT. Additional tasks may be added through negotiation between the Office of Bridges and Structures of the Iowa DOT, the Bridge Engineer, the director of the Office of Research and Analytics, and the director of InTrans and at their mutual discretion. All reasonable requests for expansion of the scope will be accepted, so long as personnel and resources are available and assignments are consistent with the expertise of the individuals. The allocation of resources at InTrans to support Iowa DOT programmatic needs will be re-evaluated in consultation with the Director of the Office of Research and Analytics at the Iowa DOT. This could result in changes in future allocations of resources to areas of core competency. Progress made on the work plans for the core programs specifically detailed in these agreements will be identified in the quarterly progress reports. Work tasks under this plan are to be conducted throughout the year. As such, Dr. Phares, will work on these tasks at approximately the seventy-four percent level throughout the year. Dr. Phares will also administer a companion project entitled “Bridge Engineer Program Supplies and Equipment.”
