Assessment of Bioswale Performance Phase V

Maryland has historically been a national leader in promoting modern urban stormwater management, yet flooding and stormwater pollution continue to plague many developed areas of the state. Ongoing research needs to be completed on the effectiveness of Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration's (MDOT SHA’s) Bioretention Soil Mix (BSM) in practice. This study began in 2013 and this phase will be the final 18 months of the research. Depending on the findings, MDOT SHA’s stormwater management practices with BSM components may be able to claim more treatment than the Maryland Department of the Environment currently allows.
