Re-Evaluation of Emergency Vehicle Colors for Safety and Identification
This project was designed to evaluate the following research objectives: (1) What was the basis for adopting yellow-green as the specified color for ARFF vehicles? (2) What color best promotes the visibility of ARFF vehicles? (3) What are the visibility and conspicuity benefits of markings on ARFF vehicles? (4) Can the visibility of ARFF vehicles be improved? (5) What is the current status of retroreflective materials used on ARFF vehicles? (6) Does the existing Advisory Circular need to be updated and does it need to be as prescriptive as it historically has been regarding the color yellow-green?
