Interfacing Synchrono and NADS for Virtual Simulation of Conventional & Connected and Autonomous Vehicles

This project seeks to interface a scalable simulation environment for autonomous and conventional vehicles called Synchrono, with NADS. The goal is to establish a simulation capability that can inject a human driving a conventional NADS vehicle into a Synchrono traffic scenario with tens of other vehicles whose time evolution could be scripted, autonomous, or controlled by other individuals through game consoles. The proposed project aligns with several SAFER-SIM themes. It facilitates the testing of “Automated vehicles technology,” as it will enable assessing road users’ response to automated vehicles, augmented reality, and in-vehicle safety systems. Since Synchrono provides V2X communication simulation, this project allows for the testing of “Connected vehicles technology”. Finally, it advances the idea of “Distributed simulation technology”.
