Development of AIS Model of Texas Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Travel Times
This work will build on work previously done by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center (ERDC) on the Ohio, Illinois, and Upper Mississippi Rivers. That work used Automated Identification Service (AIS) records to develop travel time statistics for the three rivers. The focus of this research project is to perform a similar analysis on the Texas portion of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW). The Texas GIWW presents a level of complexity significantly greater than rivers mentioned above because of the intersections with ship channels and the fact that some barges go into and exit port areas while others pass through.
